TO WHOM IS THE BACHELOR’S IN BUSINESS WITH SPECIALIZATION IN  MANAGEMENT FOR YACHT CAPTAINS ADDRESSED TO?

Experienced Yacht Captains who have not earned a degree but wish to do so without having to re-study everything they have already learned.

Students who are approaching for the first time the course of study in Business Management – Yachting area, interested in experimenting with new forms of learning and acquiring useful skills and experiences in the labour market, allowing them to be more effective in their professional integration.

Graduates looking for a career change and who aspire work in the yachting management sector;

 

I AM A CAPTAIN WITH MANY YEARS OF NAVIGATION. IS MY PREVIOUS TRAINING RECOGNIZED?

The purpose of this Bachelor program is to recognize the work experience already accumulated and relevant to the contents of the Bachelor and transform it into academic credits (ECTS). To achieve this, it is necessary to request GY – Higher Education Institution the application for the “recognition of prior learning”. This is an official and in-depth process conducted by a nominated ad-hoc commission of experts and academics, that allows for a maximum recognition of up to 50% of the bachelor’s degree. The remaining part of the Bachelor will integrate the missing components.

 

I AM A CAPTAIN WITH MANY YEARS OF EXPERIENCE, BUT I HAVE NEVER EARNED A DEGREE. WHAT CAN THE BACHELOR’S DEGREE OFFER ME?

For the first time, and in line with innovative educational policies that are increasingly applied internationally, it is possible to have the qualified work experience gained over the years, recognized at university level. This process called “Recognition of Prior Learning” will allow a Captain, who already has technical and managerial experience, to obtain a bachelor’s degree with European recognition by integrating the academic credits deriving from their work experience with contents that complement managerial skills and facilitate the continuation of their career making it even more interdisciplinary, as required by the job market.

 

AFTER MANY YEARS ON BOARD, I WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE THE CAREER OF CAPTAIN FOR OFFSHORE SERVICES. WHAT ARE THE OPPORTUNITIES OFFERED BY THE BACHELOR’S DEGREE?

The bachelor’s degree responds to two fundamental and proven needs of the labor market, both sectorial and general, both local and international, namely: integrating interdisciplinary skills and continuing education for the professions so that they can survive the sudden changes of recent years.

The bachelor’s degree recognizes the important managerial value that over the years has led the profession of Captains to be more complex and sophisticated, and on this basis integrates some elements that allow the updating, integration and strengthening managerial skills thus helping to finalize the transformation of the figure of the commander into a 360-degree administrator profile.

 

WHY SHOULD I REGISTER? WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?

This course was structured and designed together with the industry as a one of a kind. If you are a young person with one year of sailing (minimum entry requirement) and at the beginning of your career, this bachelor’s degree allows you to propose yourself in an innovative way in a changing sector, specializing with a managerial profile linked to the figure of the Yacht Captain.

If you have good experience in navigation, and in the sector, and you would like to have it recognized in academic credits, thus integrating it with managerial aspects related to the figure of the captain and usable in nearby contexts, you will find in this bachelor’s degree an opportunity for international recognition and visibility in the industry.

If you are a Captain, this bachelor’s degree is designed to recognize the value of the work you had and are still conducting, and which has partly university value. The figure of the Captain has a growing managerial and guiding role for the entire industry, therefore, this bachelor’s degree aims to offer a strengthening of contents and image. In support of this bachelor’s course, access and membership facilities are provided for those who are Captains.

WHAT IS THE VALUE OF THIS BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN BUISNESS WITH SPECIALIZATION IN MANAGEMENT FOR YACHTING CAPTAINS?

The bachelor’s degree issued by GY Academy – Higher Education Institution (License number 2019 -005) is an official document recognized by the competent authorities of Malta, and therefore it has European value (issues 180 ECTS). Furthermore, the degree obtained with GY Academy has facility of recognition in 30 Commonwealth countries as well. It corresponds to level 6, therefore in Italy is a first level degree, while level 7 is a Master (or specialist) degree.

 

ARE THERE  OTHER COURSES OF SHORTER DURATION AND CERTIFIED TRAINING?

There are courses, officially recognized, lasting between 6 months and 1 year, aimed at those who wish to acquire more knowledge in the yachting sector for career improvements and / or changes without obtaining a degree.

WHAT ARE THE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS?

The entry requirements are:

Completed secondary education (Level 5 EQF) matriculation examination or vocational qualification (level 5 MQF) possibly related to subjects like economy, business, finance as well as navigation.

Should demonstrate at least 1 year of ‘seagoing service’ [reference:  STCW Convention, International Convention on Standard of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for seafarers, 1978, point 26] with official documentation.

Level of English requested is B2;

 

 

WHO ARE THE LECTURERS OF THE COURSE?

The lecturers of the course are selected from the academic world as well as from particularly qualified professionals of international level. The Scientific Committee has the function of direction, selection and scientific supervision and is made up of important personalities from the world of yachting and international management.
